What if our society were organized around care, not profit? Social Reproduction Theory enables us to understand the contradiction between capitalist profit-making and human life-making. Social reproduction is a category of labor — usually gendered, often racialized, largely unpaid — that capitalism has strained to a crisis point. In this Study Group series, we explore the theory and its applications to class struggle. Check out the Syllabus for links to the readings.

Public Power initiatives have been gaining traction across the country. In Maine, we may have an opportunity to replace private corporations like CMP and Versant with a democratically controlled utility system.
We will be reviewing (and possibly adopting) a proposed decision-making process for the group, hearing a debrief from the Our Power (formerly Maine Power for Maine People) coalition informational meeting, and get a report from the Legislative team on the current proposed consumer-owned utility bill. Please join us!

General meetings are when chapter members come together to discuss the various projects going on. We also have discussions about chapter policy, and the direction of our direction going forward in 2021.
We’ll have a discussion on whether debate or connection is more central to our organizing and brainstorm ways to work through disagreements while building solidarity and maintaining a welcoming environment to new or prospective members
As for business we'll be considering a proposal on a new Publication Committee. As well as a resolution from Electoral Committee on the upcoming Charter Commission campaign.
At the tail end we'll be going over updates about the National DSA 2021 Convention.
